Are aftermarket bright halogens worth the cost?

Our 1995 auto is great, but the lights are dim in comparison to our 2007 model. Driving the old car at night is less pleasant as we age. Are the aftermarket bright halogens that one can buy at an auto parts store worth the price - about $85 for four bulbs. Opinions please, especially from older drivers.
