Auto Insurance Industry?

I was thinking about going into the insurance industry. To become an auto insurance agent. so my question is does anyone make any good money selling insurance anymore? I told my family I wanted to do this and they said it would have been a great idea 30 years ago. Which makes no sense since I was not even born then but they said it used to be a good field but not anymore... so are they telling the truth? I do not know anyone in the field yet
