Am I right to be a bit annoyed about this? What should I do?

I understand your point of view, still it's their day and they probably really liked that particular venue... If you go and feel uncomfortable all the time (because of all the money you had to spend) the meaning of the celebration will be gone, you won' enjoy yourself. And I guess that's the whole point...
